Magnesium isn't exactly a glamorous ingredient.
It doesn't have the buzz of the newest skincare active.
It isn't packaged as some exotic beauty secret.
But magnesium has quietly become part of many people's evening self-care routines.
And one increasingly popular way to use it is topically.
What Is Topical Magnesium?
Topical magnesium products commonly use magnesium chloride dissolved in water, often called magnesium "oil."
Despite the name, magnesium oil isn't actually an oil.
It feels slightly slick or oily on the skin because of the concentrated magnesium chloride solution.
You'll find topical magnesium in sprays, lotions, creams, and bath products.
But there's an important distinction we should make.
Can Your Body Really Absorb Magnesium Through Your Skin?
You'll see some big claims online about transdermal magnesium.
The research isn't strong enough for us to tell you that applying magnesium to your skin will reliably correct a magnesium deficiency or replace dietary magnesium.
That's not how we talk about our products.
If you're concerned that you aren't getting enough magnesium, that's a conversation to have with your healthcare provider.
So why do people love topical magnesium?
Because it can still be a wonderful part of a soothing body-care ritual.
Why Use a Magnesium Lotion?
Straight magnesium spray is simple and convenient, but concentrated magnesium chloride can sometimes feel tingly or uncomfortable—especially on freshly shaved, very dry, or irritated skin.
Putting magnesium into a nourishing body lotion creates a very different experience.
You get the magnesium chloride along with moisturizing ingredients that leave the skin feeling soft and cared for.
For someone who doesn't enjoy the feel of a spray, a magnesium lotion can be a much more enjoyable option.
When Should You Apply Topical Magnesium?
We particularly love incorporating it into an evening routine.
Think of it as a cue:
The busy part of the day is over.
After your shower, massage magnesium lotion into areas like your legs, feet, shoulders, or arms.
Then put the phone down.
Dim the lights.
Read.
Pray.
Stretch
Drink some water.
Give yourself ten quiet minutes before moving on to whatever comes next.
Sometimes the value of a routine isn't one miraculous ingredient.
It's the habit the ingredient helps you create.
Does Magnesium Spray Sting?
It can.
Some people experience tingling, itching, or a mild stinging sensation with concentrated topical magnesium products.
That doesn't necessarily mean "it's working," and you don't need to tolerate significant discomfort.
Avoid applying magnesium chloride products to broken or freshly shaved skin, and discontinue use if your skin becomes irritated.
If straight magnesium spray isn't comfortable for you, a formulated magnesium lotion may provide a gentler experience.
Magnesium Isn't Skincare Magic

And we don't think it needs to be.
We're much more interested in creating products that fit into real life than promising miracles.
Topical magnesium can become part of a simple evening ritual that combines body care with a few intentional minutes to slow down.
No complicated routine.
No dramatic promises.
Just a mineral that's been around forever, paired with nourishing skincare and a little intentional time at the end of your day.
Sometimes simple really is enough.
